Sarah’s Story

"My favourite part of the role is forming great relationships with clients, dealing with a range of complexities across my client base, and working within a fantastic firm culture."

I joined Accru back in January 2010, while completing my Bachelor of Business (Accounting) degree. I then continued my studies, completing the chartered accountants program, followed by a Master of Taxation (UNSW).

My favourite part of the role is forming great relationships with clients, dealing with a range of complexities across my client base, and working within a fantastic firm culture. A highlight of my career to date was a Secondment to an accounting firm in New York in 2015, which was a fantastic and very rewarding experience. Whilst in America, I had exposure to Audit and the US tax system, which allowed me to expand my knowledge and experience beyond the Australian accounting network.

I specialise in tax advisory and am currently an associate director in this area. I am grateful for being given opportunities at Accru to not only work with complex and exciting clients, but also to receive leadership opportunities within the BAS team, where I take part in setting and delivering on the division’s annual KPI’s.

I admire the fantastic culture at Accru, and feel that we have a real family atmosphere and are incredibly supportive of each other. We celebrate achievements as a team and reward our staff positively. I have undertaken a lot of external training throughout my career, not only in the tax advisory area, but also in management; and I am currently mentoring staff who are undertaking their CA course. I am grateful that Accru participates in ACATG training, which has allowed me to meet colleagues in the same roles from across Australia and share ideas on the successful operation of mid-tier professional firms. I love being a part of Accru Melbourne, a firm that sees people as number one, and provides its staff with fantastic opportunities to be challenged in their career.
