Fin’s Story

"There are so many experienced people across the business with different specialties and backgrounds, which means there is always something new to learn."

My name is Fin, and I’m an Intermediate Accountant at Accru Melbourne. I’m a part of the Business Advisory Services (BAS) division, working within one of the tax teams to support clients with tax advisory, compliance and planning.

I began my journey with Accru while studying Accounting and Finance at university. In my third year, I undertook an Industry-Based Learning (IBL) placement after meeting two Accru team members at a Swinburne recruitment event.

What initially stood out to me about Accru was the balance between professionalism and culture. The firm’s strong focus on client satisfaction, combined with its fun and youthful environment, made it an easy decision to join the team.

Following my placement year, I continued working part-time while completing my studies before officially moving into a full-time role. My role has a strong focus on tax compliance and advisory for small businesses, families and high-net-worth individuals. I particularly enjoy helping clients with tax planning and strategy, working alongside them to achieve outcomes that are both practical and tax effective.

One of the things I value most is building genuine relationships with clients. I enjoy staying connected with what’s happening in their businesses and lives outside of work, and I believe the best solutions are often the ones that give clients peace of mind and confidence in their future.

Technically, I have developed strong experience working with clients who hold large investment portfolios, particularly in areas involving capital gains events and investment-related tax matters.

I primarily work with small businesses, sole traders and families with investment portfolios. Many of my clients work within the healthcare industry, including specialised doctors and surgeons across Victoria and Australia. I also work closely with a number of IT businesses, supporting them through their growth and ongoing tax obligations.

One of the proudest milestones in my career so far was receiving a promotion to Intermediate Accountant. As part of this progression, I was given the opportunity to manage my own client portfolio, allowing me to further strengthen my leadership, client relationship management and communication skills. It was a rewarding step in my professional journey and reflected Accru’s commitment to supporting the ongoing development and growth of its people.

For me, the professional growth opportunities available at Accru are what make the firm unique. There are so many experienced people across the business with different specialties and backgrounds, which means there is always something new to learn.

No two days are ever the same, and opportunities naturally arise when you are willing to seek them out. I also highly value the impact we have on our clients and the trust they place in us to support their businesses, families and financial futures.

Outside of accounting, I’m a big music fan and enjoy playing the guitar in my spare time. I love 70s to 90s rock music and try to get to as many concerts as possible.
