I’m Lily, a Junior Accountant at Accru Melbourne. I’ve been with the firm for just over a year now, starting in the Audit team before recently transitioning to the Business Advisory Services (BAS) team. I’m currently finishing my double degree in Business and Health Science at Swinburne University, majoring in Financial Planning, Psychology, and Forensic Science.
My journey to Accru started thanks to a referral from my friend who is now a colleague. We met at university, and funnily enough, I was his supervisor at a retail store. He told me about the amazing culture at Accru and how aligned the firm was with my own values. He spoke about the genuine support, the development opportunities, and how much he enjoyed coming to work each day. That really resonated with me—so I asked him to refer me, and I haven’t looked back since.
While I’m still early in my BAS journey, I’m part of the super and investments team, where I work on a wide range of clients—particularly those with self-managed super funds (SMSFs), shares, and property investments. It’s been a fantastic opportunity to build my technical knowledge and expand my understanding of the financial world, all while still completing my studies.
One of my proudest moments so far has been taking the opportunity to move teams. Switching from Audit to BAS was a bit daunting—I’d really enjoyed my time in Audit and had formed great relationships—but I was ready to try something new and challenge myself. I’m so glad I took that leap. It’s been a rewarding transition, and I feel really supported in my growth here.
What truly sets Accru apart for me is the team culture. Everyone is approachable, helpful, and genuinely invested in each other’s success. There’s no sense of competition—just a shared commitment to doing great work and helping each other learn. Even as a junior, I’ve had opportunities to work directly with clients, which has been both empowering and motivating.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and friends, going to the gym, exploring new food spots, and checking out local markets. Balance is important to me, and I appreciate how Accru supports that.
